Walks around Benthall Edge

Several walks close to Broseley - easy to pop back into town for a cuppa and cake - or a pint & a meal.

1 - The Lime Trail of Benthall Edge

To feed the enormous beast that became the Industrial Revolution, lime was essential. This walk takes you around what remains - often now much hidden.
From Broseley you can cut across to point (2) on the map using the footpath from Bridge Road,
at about 52.624585, -2.485717.

2 - Broseley Wood - starting from The Mines

Though not mentioned in the guide, that spout was used by Broseley Wood dwellers as their main water source until relatively recent times (middle of last century). The walk offers a mixture of the historically-worked woodland of Benthall Edge, and the contrasting landscape of open farmland with hedged tracks. It visits Red Pool or Bloody Pool, a rare wetland habitat in a woodland setting, full of life and with a                                                              mysterious tale to tell, before moving on to Patten’s Rock Quarry.

3 - Benthall Church, round and back to Benthall Hall

The delightful little Benthall Church is an easy stroll across the fields from Broseley (via Bridge Road), or you can drive to the Hall and park up to start this walk. It takes you through a varied landscape of open farmland and the historically-important woodland of Benthall Edge.

Benthall Hall is a National Trust property, and well worth a visit.

4 - Ironbridge to Patten's Wood Quarry

Sadly, this particular walk does not bring you very close to Broseley, but that's no reason to be too put off (just a little joke) - it's another delightful stroll.

5 - Ironbridge to Patten's Wood Quarry and beyond

This is an extended, figure of eight version of the walk above.

6 - Start in Ironbridge or at Benthall

This is a fairly substantial walk, which takes you around the fields and the woodlands. You could begin at either place, Ironbridge or Benthall.
Of course, we'd love it if you chose to begin at Benthall - having stayed overnight here in Broseley, and returning to town afterwards for a well earned visit to one of our cafes, restaurants, or pubs .
